Best Time to Visit USJ: Crowds, Weather & Park Hours.
One practical guide to the best months, seasonal weather, forecast conditions, park hours and how early to arrive.
Don't underestimate
the crowds.
USJ is one of the busiest theme parks on the planet. And yes, it can feel much more crowded than the Universal parks you've visited elsewhere.
USJ recorded approximately 16 million visitors in 2024. That is far more annual attendance than Universal Studios Hollywood or Universal Studios Florida individually. That doesn’t predict your exact wait time, but it shows why a spontaneous visit can go wrong.

It's not just the ride lines. Entrance security, crowded platforms, restaurants, and the train ride home all take time. On a busy day, aim to arrive at Universal City Station well before park opening and allow extra travel time.

February
Choose non-holiday weekdays for a potentially quieter visit. Special promotions and three-day weekends can still be busy.
Often a better windowMidweek visits
Tuesday to Thursday outside Japanese school holidays and national holidays are often a better choice.
Spring break & Golden Week
Late March to early April, late April to early May, and long weekends often bring heavy crowds.
Bad weather = empty park
Rain may reduce some queues but also disrupt outdoor attractions. Check conditions and closures.

Take the seasons seriously.
You'll be outdoors for much of the day. The right equipment is more than a comfort—it can determine how much you enjoy the park.
92.7°F — before factoring in humidity and direct sun.
37°F — long outdoor lines can feel colder after dark.
Japan's summer is
seriously hot.
Osaka summers aren't just hot; they're humid. Sticky air makes it harder for sweat to cool you, and sun reflecting off pavement makes long outdoor queues exhausting. Even visitors used to warm climates can be surprised.
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Also bring water, light clothes and a cooling towel. Take indoor breaks, follow heat alerts and don't push through dizziness. June's rainy season adds another challenge.
Cold air.
Dry days.
Osaka in winter is generally cold and often feels dry, especially with wind and indoor heating. Standing still in lines makes the chill worse as daylight fades.
DON'T FORGET
Bring layers, warm socks and hand warmers. A moisturizer or lip balm helps with dry-feeling skin and lips. Wear shoes you can stand in comfortably.

Don't arrive
at opening.
If you want a head start, aim to be at the entrance 60–90 minutes before the published opening time.
That's our planning recommendation, not a USJ rule. It allows time for packed trains, the walk through CityWalk, bag checks and an entrance queue that can build long before opening.

Changes by date. Examples from published schedules include 8:00, 8:30 and 9:00 AM.
Also changes by date. Some published schedules have closings between 7:00 and 10:00 PM.
Yes, USJ sometimes admits guests early. Its official schedule explicitly says admission may start before the posted opening time. It does not promise an early opening every day or a fixed number of minutes.
These are examples, not live opening hours. Always confirm your specific date on the official calendar, ideally again on the evening before your visit.
Download the official USJ app.
Strongly recommended before you go. It's one of the most useful tools for navigating a busy day at Universal Studios Japan.
Check attraction wait times and show schedules, use the park map, and request Timed Entry eTickets when available and required. Download it before your visit, then check its features and park notifications on the day. Some tickets can only be obtained after entering the park.
See USJ's official app instructions ↗Free download; mobile internet required. USJ currently lists iOS 17+ or Android 9+ as minimum requirements. App functions and entry-ticket availability may vary by date and device.
