Official USJ FAQs ↗
Do I need an Express Pass?+

No. A regular Studio Pass includes park admission and access to eligible attractions, but an Express Pass is a separate purchase that can shorten selected queues. Compare the specific attractions and timed-entry conditions before buying.

Can I enter Super Nintendo World without a separate ticket?+

Entry can require an Area Timed Entry Ticket, Standby Entry Ticket, or advance-guaranteed access, depending on the day. From January 5, 2026, same-day area tickets are handled through the official USJ app. Check availability as soon as you enter.

Does USJ really open before its published opening time?+

Sometimes, yes. The official operating-hours page explicitly says admission may begin ahead of the scheduled time. It is never guaranteed, so our recommendation is to arrive 60–90 minutes before the published time if early rides are a priority.

What time do ticket booths open?+

USJ says ticket booths generally open 45 minutes before the park’s listed opening time and close two hours before the park closes. Hours may change without notice, so buying admission online beforehand is easier.

Can I go back to my hotel and return later?+

Usually no. Standard Studio Passes do not permit re-entry after you leave the park. Annual Passes have different rules. Plan meals, breaks and any luggage storage accordingly.

Can I bring my own food and water?+

USJ asks guests not to bring outside food or drinks, but contained water is permitted. There are special arrangements for certain guest needs; consult official park rules if you have dietary or medical requirements.

Can I take a suitcase into the park?+

No. Suitcases, roller bags and other oversized luggage are not allowed inside. Large and extra-large coin lockers are available outside the park; check availability and size limitations before arriving.

Are selfie sticks and tripods allowed?+

Tripods and extendable selfie sticks are generally prohibited. USJ permits only very small handheld selfie-stick use under specific restrictions. Check the official “When Entering the Park” guidance before packing camera gear.

Do the rides have height or age restrictions?+

Attractions have safety requirements, including some height limits. USJ says rides do not have blanket age-based use restrictions, but individual attraction requirements apply. Check your planned rides before visiting with children.

What is Child Switch?+

If a child cannot ride, eligible adults can take turns riding while one supervises the child without both needing to wait through the full queue again. Ask a crew member about availability and procedures.

Can I visit from Kyoto in a day?+

Yes. A JR route from Kyoto Station via Osaka and Nishikujo to Universal City can take around 50–75 minutes, depending on the service and connections. Leave earlier than you think if you want to beat the opening rush.

Can I visit from Tokyo in a day?+

Possible but tiring. Tokyo to Shin-Osaka by Shinkansen takes several hours, followed by local JR trains. Staying in Osaka the night before is much less stressful if your priority is early park admission.

Can I use the ferry from downtown Osaka?+

The Captain Line ferry does not leave from Osaka Station or Namba. It connects Kaiyukan West Wharf by the aquarium with Universal City Port. Use the Ferry button in the route finder for fares and instructions.

Does staying at a USJ Official Hotel let me enter early?+

Not automatically. “Official Hotel” means a recognized partner property; park admission and any hotel/package-specific benefits must be checked separately. Do not assume priority entry is included.

What should I do if I feel sick or get injured?+

Tell a nearby crew member. USJ has a First Aid room just inside the entrance on the right, with nurses on duty. In hot weather, seek help early rather than pushing through symptoms.

Is summer really that hot?+

Yes. Osaka summers are hot and particularly humid. Strongly consider a handheld fan, hat, sunscreen and plenty of contained drinking water, plus indoor breaks. In winter, outdoor queues can feel cold and dry.
